Beer run on a lawn mower leads to OUI charge

VASSALBORO, Maine – A Maine man has been charged with operating under the influence after he and a friend made a beer run on a riding lawn mower.

Police say 51-year-old Danforth Ross of Vassalboro was charged May 29.

Trooper Joe Chretien had been flagged down by several motorists warning of a wayward mower and made the arrest after Ross and his friend emerged from a variety store with two cases of beer.

Ross' driver's license had been revoked, so the pair opted for the lawn mower.

Ross couldn't be reached for comment.

Fight in car over $3 leads to fish tank attack

PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Authorities said a fight in a car over $3 in gas money led to one passenger hitting another with a fish tank and then a beer bottle. The sheriff's office reported that an 18-year-old driver and 30-year-old passenger picked up their 26-year-old friend from a strip club on Monday night. When the driver asked for gas money, the man who had been picked up from the strip club refused to pay.

A fight between the three friends quickly escalated, and authorities said the 26-year-old man grabbed a fish tank from the back seat and began hitting the passenger. The passenger then managed to wrestle a beer bottle away and break it over the 26-year-old's head.

The driver eventually pulled over and called deputies. Both men were charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. They were being held on $10,000 bail.

Stupid News:Wind leads police to marijuana-growing operation

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Mother Nature helped police uncover a home marijuana-growing operation. Police said a gust of wind set off a security alarm at a home in western St. Joseph County on Tuesday, prompting Indiana State Police Trooper Mick Dockery to investigate.

Dockery found the back door of the home open. Inside the home, his police dog indicated the presence of drugs. Police found 19 marijuana plants and 40 grams of processed marijuana.

No arrests have been made, but St. Joseph County prosecutors are reviewing possible charges against the homeowners.

Stupid News:Unreturned library book leads to woman's arrest

Now this is stupid news!
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – An Iowa woman has been arrested because she failed to return a library book.

Thirty-nine-year-old Shelly Koontz was arrested Thursday night on a fifth-degree theft charge. She is accused of keeping "The Freedom Writers Diary," which she checked out from the public library in nearby Jesup in April.

Police say the book — which is about a high school teacher's effort to inspire students to write — is valued at $13.95.

Court records show library employees tried repeatedly to contact Koontz by phone and mail. A police officer even visited her home last September.

Officials at the Buchanan County jail say Koontz was released after posting $250 bond. No telephone listing for Koontz could be found in the Independence area.
