Gross News:Human skeletons found offer evidence of cannibalism

Germany - The ribs were picked clean, tongues cut out and the heads skinned, so that the tops of skulls could be sliced off like boiled eggs. Could this remarkably precise piece of butchery be evidence of the world’s first cannibal barbecue? An international team of archaeologists and anthropologists is puzzling over a discovery in Germany of about 500 prehistoric skeletons that seem to suggest that men, women and children were eaten as part of a sacrificial ritual to save their community. “We detected patterns on the bones of animals indicating that they had been spit-roasted,” Bruno Boulestin, an anthropologist from the University of Bordeaux who has been analysing 217 reassembled human bones from the site, said. ....More

Scrap workers find $128,000 in safe

BERLIN (Reuters) – Workers at a steel plant near Berlin found 100,000 euros ($128,500) in a safe that a bank had sent to be scrapped -- but they did the decent thing and gave it back.

An employee at Germany's Postbank had failed to take out the cash before sending the safe to the scrapyard. Spokesman Ralf Palm blamed "the carelessness of an employee when a branch office moved in December."

Odd News:Postman hoards 20,000 letters in Germany

Odd News:Postman hoards 20,000 letters in Germany

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - A Scottish postman working in Germany hoarded at least 20,000 letters at home because he felt his work was too taxing, police said on Tuesday.

The postman in Frankfurt was caught when a neighbor saw him tipping a mail delivery into a rubbish bin and alerted police.

"It's worth mentioning the 23-year-old didn't deliver mail addressed to himself either," local police said in a statement.

Investigating officers found rubbish bags and boxes full of letters and other post stashed around the man's flat and cellar. He told police he had got behind with deliveries because of his night school studies and felt too "overtaxed" to catch up.

Police said at a conservative estimate, the hoard, which the man had built up since August 2007, comprised at least 20,000 letters. Two vans were needed to remove it.

Stupid News-Boars help German cops capture auto theft suspect

Stupid News-Boars help German cops capture auto theft suspect
BERLIN - A herd of wild boars has thwarted a suspected car thief's getaway in northern Germany.

Police in Schwerin say the 18-year-old abandoned a stolen SUV he was driving Thursday after failing to shake off a chasing patrol car by driving into a field.

Police nabbed his passenger immediately. But they say the driver initially got away by running into nearby woods.

Officers then heard the fugitive shouting for help — he had run into a herd of angry wild boars that were keen to protect their young.

Police freed the man from the boars and took him into custody.

Wild boars are a common sight in forested areas of northern Germany. They often make themselves at home in residential neighborhoods, too, uprooting gardens and annoying homeowners.
