Music Teacher Resigns, Pawned Students’ instruments

Daytona Beach, Florida - A music teacher has abruptly resigned from his position at a Volusia County high school. James Morris, 26, was a first-year teacher at University High School in Orange City. Authorities said Morris admitted to taking students’ guitars and other school property, including instruments, a camcorder and a computer. Morris told investigators he was pawning the equipment to get money because of a gambling problem. They said a lead in the investigation came after Morris checked out a laptop computer that later ended up at a pawn shop. Police said Morris pawned all the instruments at five different shops for $850.  More…
